Lucy Liu is an American actress voice actress director producer and singer. She is an attractive, smart actress who is a source of inspiration for numerous Asian actors to be successful in Hollywood. Through a succession of appearances on popular TV shows, she achieved fame as she was a part of the ensemble in the series legal comedy Ally McBeal where she played the malicious Ling Woo. The actress put her rapid popularity into big screen roles in films like Shanghai Noon and Charlie's Angels. She then delivered a superlative performance as Japanese criminal O-Ren Ishii as Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Volume 1. In the same period, she played major characters in other box-office flops such as Rise: Blood Hunter. In the following years, she started voicing characters from animated films like Kung Fu Panda or Tinker Bell. Mia Mason, in Cashmere Mafia and other small screen roles did not achieve any recognition. In the course of her recurring roles in the critically-acclaimed police drama Southland helped re-establish herself as an actress of note. Liu plays her roles with the utmost respect in order to ensure she is not typecast in a competitive industry. She's accepted her Chinese roots but hasn't let it affect her art.
